Yikes! Windows 10

Post by CowboyUp on Fri Jul 31, 2015 7:06 pm

I downloaded Windows 10, which didn't really make any exciting difference.... except now ET is screwed up. The screen cuts off: the ET image doesn't fill my entire monitor, but it cuts off about 20% on the right side. Windows gives me a message that says the display isn't correct, and that I should switch to 1920 x (something). My PC settings are already there. No matter what I change in ET, the image doesn't change.

Second problem, the pointer drifts all over the screen. Hard to change settings because it's constantly moving.

Beyond destroying Windows 10, any ideas?

I had to do recovery not long ago, and this time I decided to install all the available updates, so I noticed this "Install Windows 10" button as well.

I was thinking about installing Windows 10, but I'm a bit afraid it will send everything I do on it to Microsoft, like its Technical Preview did.

I will probably wait a month or longer, so people can write articles about Windows 10. I would never install a new OS without reading opinions on the web (or play a game without watching some gameplay on youtube).

Regarding my current OS, I got Windows 8.1, and while I was a big sceptic at first, I was quick to learn that it's faster than Windows 7, and everything that worked on Windows 7, works (and performs better) on Windows 8.1. I never see the start screen, I don't use metro apps. Everything works in desktop environment.

If Win 10 doesn't work very well for you (probably new drivers need to be written), then I suggest you to revert back to your original OS from which you upgraded, if you have a recovery disc/usb stick. If you don't have a recovery media, you can use any DVD/usb with your original system and use the key code that should be somewhere on your computer's case.

I now have Windows 10 on two laptops, and so far I'm liking it. I am waiting to put it on my main internet machine, but from what CowboyUp said, maybe I'll hold off a bit.As for Microsoft spying on me, I could care less. I have nothing to hide in this computer....they are welcome to it. The computer with all my personal files is not hooked to the internet and never will be. For anyone to invade that one, they must pass through the front door, and I would not want to be in the first few through! So, if anyone has any more problems with Windows 10 and ET, I hope you will post them!

I finally managed to get it to play in the reduced screen mode. I'll keep fiddling with it though.

And yeah. There's nothing here that I don't want Microsoft to see.

OK, went ahead and upgraded. ET plays perfectly. (if not better). Seamless integration with all my programs. Surprised me! So far I think its going to be a better OS.

Well sad to say Cowboy, my upgrade worked fine.  GPU works great with the new windows.   Can you update the drivers for your GPU and see if that will help? The only reason I asked is I just updated mine a week ago on general principle.

Don't know if this would help, but, as soon as I rebooted, AMD download a newer version of my GPU drivers for windows 10. Before my Wolfenstein New Order would break up like a sync problem. Now it runs better than before.

I'll try the driver upgrades. Other than this issue, I'm pretty happy with Windows 10. Seems to be a much smoother operating system. Definitely better than 9 (which is on my laptop). Can't wait to upgrade that one.

I ran the troubleshoot program comparability option, and it solved the problem. The game actually runs much better with Win 10, and the graphics quality is dramatically improved.

Glad to see you back up and running. I like 10 better. Trying to get my son to install it on his new system.

For those who care about privacy (I do).
I personally don't feel like installing 10. I don't see any reason to upgrade from similar 8.1 and then spend hours turning on all the privacy options all over again. Also I like to decide what updates I want and what updates are useless to me. Of course, in the future, having Windows 10 preinstalled everywhere will be inevitable, but for now I'll stick to 8.1.

Linux

Post by leftist on Sun Sep 06, 2015 1:52 pm

I run linux almost exclusively. Have for a real long time. I do have a w7 build on one of my laptops but that is exclusively for playing games. Last night i installed 2012 r2 server on a 1950 dell poweredge i have sitting around and being i don't know shit about windows, i just played around with it. I run osx on a dell laptop for all my apple needs, but everything else is on some type of linux. I even have one laptop with Aros (amiga vm more or less) just to stay close to my favorite environment AMiGA Very Happy.

Go figure!

Hi Selene and everyone else!

So I take it anyone who has updated to Windoze 10 is now up and running with ET. I've been turning down the update out of fear. I have 10 on my Surface Pro4 and it's awesome, but not sure about my PC yet.

Hi all
I'm with Butterfly on this one. It makes no difference if we have nothing to hide. It has to do with our natural human rights to privacy. The globalist are out to take all our rights. And you can bet Bill Gates is neck deep in it.
So I'm avoiding win 10 like the plague.
